Nintendo has really impressed me using its creativity. I didn't think it had been possible…
Best Roborock S4 Black Friday Offers 2020
It appears that Roborock is doubling down on what it can best – creating better and better robot floor cleaners regularly. We’ve seen the Roborock S5, then your S6, since that your S5 Max has been announced, and today the S4 is here now for review.
The company appears to be focusing on the foundation that incredible robot vacuums won’t need to cost the earth to execute well. The Roborock S4 may be the latest exemplory case of that. It is, in writing, a feature-rich robot vacuum with a power and show set that defies the high cost.
But could it be another great cleaner or does it just plain suck? We have been coping with it around the house to find out.
Overall design and features
Dual-action anti-tangle main cleaning brush
Single edge brush
Washable dustbin and filters
Semi-transparent design finish
Initially, the Roborock S4 looks exactly like other robot vacuums you may have seen. It’s round, it includes a raised sensor system at the top to track where it’s going and it includes a single edge brush protruding from its side. It includes a bump rail, multiple sensors and charging rails to hook up using its charging dock.
But it’s beneath the hood where this robot vacuum shines. Small design aspects lead to a standard great cleaning bot. The primary cleaning brush, for instance, is a sizable dual-action anti-tangle brush. A combo of classic bristles and rubber fins means this brush works on both carpet and hard flooring too. It is also cleverly made to avoid getting knotted with hair just as much as other brushes.
If it can get tangled, there’s an included tool for de-knotting it. You may also take away the tips of the brush to pull any tangled hair or fibers off easily. Having the capacity to keep carefully the bot clean is a significant part of ensuring it functions since it should.
There are even tiny design features created to minimise the volume of effort you will need to devote to keep this bot in tip-top shape. For instance, brushes on the lower is there to brush the key intake brush to keep it problem-free.
Other design features, for instance a washable dustbin and filters, does mean you are not regularly spending a lot of money on maintenance aswell.
On a simple level, the Roborock S4 can be simple to use every day. There’s a power button and a home button at the top of the bot. A press using one sends it out for the clean, as the other sends it back again to the dock for a charge. Simple.
Robot setup and cleaning cycles
Remote control functionality
Scheduled, zone cleaning and room cleaning options
However the real power and controllability comes within the app, designed for your iPhone or Android smartphone.
From within the app, that can be done things like modify vacuum settings, create timers, view cleaning history logs and use simple commands like “find my bot” to help make the robot shout – if you cannot find it for reasons uknown.
This application also offers you usage of interesting data and the useful power of the intelligent mapping system.
Real-time intelligent mapping and room scanning
11 sensors including 4 cliff sensors, clog sensors and more
Real-time mapping system
LIDAR laser scanner
The Roborock S4 is packed to the brim with sensors and cleaning smarts. Among these may be the LIDAR laser scanning system, which is among the sensors driverless cars use. This permits the bot to use a real-time mapping functionality. As the robot cleaner moves around your house, it scans the area to work through what the area appears like, to suss out obstacles that may block the way and workout where it requires to go.
As it’s done in real-time, this mapping system works effectively – regardless if you adapt the layout of the area regularly. If you move a footstall, rearrange the chairs or maybe leave a sizable box in the hallway for collection, the bot will adapt for it. It will workout which rooms it’s been in and report where it had any issues too.
This real-time laser mapping does mean the Roborock S4 is less inclined to get stuck. That’s not to say this doesn’t come across problems though: if it sucks up a sock or runs over a tissue that then gets wrapped up in its wheel it’ll soon be begging for a helping hand.
Should this happen the Roborock will send an audible notification, including a notification on your own phone detailing the problem. Whether that is clearly a case of the bot has stepped on something it can’t log off, or the wheels or brush are tangled and blocked. After that you can use the software to find where in fact the bot is inside your home in line with the map and go rescue it.
We found we rarely had to get this done as the S4 is excellent at both getting about and getting back again to its dock. It moves well, navigating rooms and making its way around or higher obstacles easily. We also like this even though the dock is nestled in a good corner it still manages to reunite there easily.
Obstacle detection and room cleaning capabilities
Multiple suction modes: Silent, Standard, Medium and Turbo (up to 2000pa)
Supersized 5200mAh LiPo battery, up to 3 hours cleaning time per charge
You need to use the iphone app to send the bot out to completely clean the complete house (on to the floor it’s located, these bots still can’t climb stairs), specific zones and even certain rooms. This cleaning can be executed with the decision of multiple suction modes, including Silent, Standard, Medium and Turbo.
Silent is fairly quiet (not totally silent) and may be used to completely clean the home before you even get right up each morning – according to how heavy a sleeper you are. The quieter cleaning modes mean the bot can clean for longer before having to charge, but won’t clean as effectively as when on the bigger suction modes.
We found Turbo mode to work. We regularly found ourselves emptying the dustbin when working with this mode, which alone is fair proof that the S4 is a wonderful cleaning machine. In addition, it managed to grab dirt and dust when out for a clean after another competitor bot on test had already given the home a sweep.
The Roborock S4 can clean for up to three hours on the cheapest suction level, but we usually discovered that it would complete 4 or 5 rooms within 40 minutes in a reasonable way before time for its home.
The Roborock S4 cleans in a regimented way. It moves from room to room, passing along in a z-shaped cleaning pattern, zig-zagging its way about. On thicker carpet, it leaves pleasing track marks in the fibres revealing where it’s been just as a specialist lawn mower leaves lines in the freshly mowed grass.
In addition, it performs well on any surface. We witnessed the S4 cleaning both plush carpet and hard wooden floors. The floating main brush means it could clean between gaps and modify to compensate for the region it’s cleaning. The edge brush includes a dynamic speed and is effective at cleaning the edges of rooms and skirting boards too.
Beyond auto cleaning, you can drag and choose a cursor over certain parts of your house within the iphone app to send the bot to completely clean that area or perhaps select a specific room for this to go and cope with. Gleam pin-and-go functionality to enable you to drop a pin on the virtual map and tell it to go spot clean.
If there are areas you do not want the Roborock S4 to go, then you can certainly set “no-go” zones and virtual barriers, meaning you can stop it from entering rooms without even needing to close the door. In addition, it means you can specify areas within an area that your bot should avoid too, be that in order to avoid knocking over a vase or a pile of Lego a kid is using. The cleaning options are incredibly flexible.
Roborock is offering two fantastic H6 cordless vacuums and offering $50 off on any purchases (promo)
We’re often impressed with Roborock’s robot floor cleaners. They are feature-rich cleaning machines that don’t cost the planet earth – and the S4 is no different.
There are no mopping options with this bot, however, so it is a pure vacuum and that’s it. Nonetheless it does well at what it’s created for, whether on carpet or hard floors. It is also filled with features and a good amount of customisation options within the iphone app too.
Your money can buy, the Roborock S4 is a genuine bargain. It’s an excellent and intelligent cleaning machine to increase your home. If you a little of supplemental income then the S6 can be an a lot more feature-packed alternative.
